History,
family know-how
THANK YOU GILBERT
The story of Distillerie Castan began 3 generations ago, in 1941. Gilbert and his son Jacques were itinerant distillers, taking a mobile still to villages in the Tarn and Aveyron regions to distill fruit for private customers. A practice that has now disappeared, forcing third-generation Sébastien Castan to reinvent the trade, and to focus on a beverage unheard of in our latitudes: whisky.
A FAMILY AFFAIR
In 2007, Céline Castan and his wife, Céline Castan, decided to build a fruit and whisky distillery. The idea didn’t come from nowhere. Sébastien owns the land around the distillery. He grows a variety of cereals in rotation, favoring the production of malting barley. Whisky production was an obvious choice for Céline and Sébastien.
OCCITANIE’S FIRST WHISKY DISTILLERY
The first Whisky Tarnais was distilled in February 2010 and bottled in April 2013. The result is a coppery liquid, with aromas of spice, almond, cocoa and hazelnut.
Cultivation, grain harvesting, brewing, fermentation, distillation, aging and bottling are all carried out at Distillerie Castan.
